Advice
Gutter and fascia problems to watch for
Gutters, fascias and soffits sit at the edge of the roof and carry all the water it sheds. Small problems here quickly lead to damp walls and rot.
Warning signs
Water spilling over the gutter in rain, sagging or leaking joints, plants growing in the gutter, green streaks down the wall, or flaking and soft fascia boards.
Birds or pests getting in behind the soffits can also point to gaps in the roofline.
Why it matters
Overflowing water soaks brickwork and render, can get into the walls and rots timber fascias and rafter ends over time.
Putting it right
Gutters can be cleared, realigned, resealed or replaced, and tired fascias and soffits renewed. We look at what is actually needed and explain the options.
